Setup - Installation options

Fields

The Installation options page displays the available installation options (yes, really). It contains the following fields.

Installation folder

Displays the path that the <AppFolder> variable resolves to At this point, the path is fully resolved in the sense that its components (usually including <ProgramFiles>) are also filled in according to the settings of the customer's computer. The initial value of this field is set in the Application folder field on the Installation page of your Tarma QuickInstall project.

If you checked the Allow customer to browse for application folder box on the same project page, the customer may choose a different folder by simply typing into the Installation folder text field. If you cleared the box, the text field is grayed out (marked read-only).

Browse...

Clicking this button opens a standard Windows Browse for Folder dialog that allows the customer to choose a different installation folder. When the customer clicks OK in that dialog, the chosen folder path is copied to the Installation folder field and the last (rightmost) folder name is appended to it to create an application-specific folder path. (Obviously, the customer may remove that portion by editing the Installation folder field.)

Required disk space

Displays the amount of disk space required to install all installation files for the current target platform. This number does not take into account any space savings that may be achieved if one or more of the installation files are already present on the target system and need only be updated.

Available disk space

Displays the amount of disk space available on the currently selected installation drive.

Install shortcuts on

Allows the customer to select installation locations for the application shortcuts. The options here act as a mask for the shortcut locations that you specified on the Project - Shortcuts page. At installation time, Tarma QuickInstall presets the locations that you checked as Standard Locations on the Shortcut settings pane, but the customer may clear undesired locations to prevent shortcut creation in that location.

Default

Clicking this button restores the default installation options, in particular the Installation folder field.

Wizard buttons

See the description on the Setup - Welcome page. Note that the caption of the Next > button is changed to Install to signal the customer that continuation starts the installation process proper.

Actions

When the customer clicks the Install button, Setup performs the following actions.

  1. It checks if the selected installation folder is writable to the customer. If not, Setup displays a message box to that effect and requests the user to select a different installation folder.
  2. If the previous check passes, Setup checks if sufficient disk space is available on the installation drive. If not, another message box is displayed and the customer is once again requested to select a different installation folder.

If both checks pass, Setup then displays the Setup - Installation progress page.
